Introduction to Photoshop
Class Description
A six-session class covering the basics of image editing and photo manipulation using Photoshop 7 with special emphasis on Web graphics creation and optimization. Learn how to use Photoshop as a Web design and production tool for rapid prototyping of Web page layouts and Web graphics optimization. This course is aimed at the Photoshop beginner who wants to learn how to tap this powerful image editing program to edit, enhance, and/or create sophisticated graphics while having fun!
Specific topics covered in this class:
- Work Areas and Tools. Getting familiar with the Photoshop and Image Ready environments.
- Transformations. Resizing, cropping, and rotating images, as well as selecting areas of an image and how to work with those selections.
- Layer Basics. Learn the ins and outs of working with Photoshop Layers --the key to working with complex images.
- Type Basics. Learn how to create and edit type, then add and manipulate special effects to your type like drop shadows, embossing, bevelled edges, etc.
- Web Graphic File Formats. How to create Web-friendly graphics (including Buttons, Banners, and Background Tiles) from scratch, or take existing graphics and convert them into Web-ready formats. Learn the secrets of using Photoshop and/or Image Ready to optimize (i.e. compress) graphic files so they load quickly and still look great!
- GIF Animations and Image Maps. Learn how to create and optimize simple to moderately complex GIF animations and Image Maps with Image Ready and design Web Page Layouts using grids and guides in Photoshop. Find out how the pros work with slices to convert their page designs into actual Web pages.
- Photo Manipulation. Retouching, adjustments, and enhancements including brightness, contrast, saturation, basic color correction, and filters for blurring and softening or sharpening.
Each session begins with a thorough Q & A review of topics covered in the previous class.
